The Spectroscopy Challenge

This site has been developed to help you gain experience in using spectroscopy to determine the structure of an organic compound using a series of interactive tutorial exercises.

We have made use of the JSME Molecular Editor. If you are not familiar with this software please check this link for how to use the JSME Editor.

Each question will provide you with a data from a Mass spectrum (MS), and Infrared spectrum (IR), a 1H-NMR, and a 13C-NMR. If you need a refresher on these, take the appropriate link.

There are a total of 48 different compounds in the data base at present. You can use the following links to access questions directly, or use the link at the bottom of each question.
